Is the Vinegar test foreal?

I am trying to save money with my tank. A couple of people have told me of a vinegar test for sand. I was wondering if I could buy sand from Wal Mart or something and put it in my tank and if I put vinegar on it and it fizzes then it is good for my tank. Is this foreal?

yupper, it's for real. just look for 'argonite' sand. the vinegar test is to make shure it's argonite. also try L*wes and HD
