Is the world in bad shape?

Is the shape of the world always this bad? Tensions rising in Israel now with Iran offering an escort for the next “aid” convoy. The tensions on the Korean peninsula are rising quickly ever since the ship attack. The Euro seems to be crashing. Our debt is about to take over the GDP. We have an oil spill that seems to be unstoppable. Earthquakes and sinkholes are popping up like crazy. Nasa says the sun has awaken and we will have some severe solar activity over the next few years which can wreak havoc on our current electrical systems. Of course the terrorist alert is always up and it seems like we will never get out of Afghan or Iraq.
I’m sure there is much more but the state of the world just seems bad right now. What do you think? Par for the course or am I just worrying over nothing?

Theres no doubt about it imo. I was even just last night talking to one of my friends who has decided to go into to Navy.... I asked him, why now? Seems like bad timing. I mean, I'm as naive as the next person, but I know there are just counties out there that are just honing for war. Especially with this oil spill and all.
I don't know, I try not to worry because worrying will not do any good.

we should all be worried imo. im not religious but Jesus said "don't be aloof" and "to watch the signs of the times". i think our biggest problem is going to be the solar flares. it's possible they could wipe out grids world-wide. and it could take years to rebuild them. years without electricity = the end of life as we know it...

Well it all depends on how you look at it. There is no world war right now, and the Nazis didn’t win the last one.
wars and rumors of wars have always been a part of human life in every generation.
Earthquakes, and natural disasters have been around from the beginning of time.
It’s possible that because of the internet and instant world news you find out about something that is always going on somewhere, but it has always been that way…You just didn’t hear about it.
Oh and as for the "shape" of the world, it is round...and what goes around, comes around. You reap what you sow.

Well I wouldn't put those in quotes, but you got the basic idea.
No electric grid aught to make the leftist tree huggers happy...

I am guessing those who think things are really bad are the 20 somethings for the most part?
The middle east, even with the current crap going on is still pretty stable compared to how things were in the 60's and 70's. Russia was a constant threat and Cuba was even able to cause problems in South America. What we have now sports fans ain't jack. In economic terms we could be seeing the beginning of something really good or really bad but a change is coming. Business as usual doesn't appear to be sustainable anywhere in the world and at long last people are waking up to the fact politicians are the problem, not the solution.
The 60's were a pretty tumultuous time to be alive but also exciting. We saw a lot of changes, some good, some bad. Keep your ears and eyes open and soak it all in. I have a feeling you kiddies are going to be smack dab in the middle of another change in course.

Well, we aren't in a world wide war, we aren't doing nuke drills in school. So it can't be that bad...

Just like how the year 2000 meant we're all going to die... or just like 2010...
One day eggs are good for you... next day they're not... they're only good if they're cooked.. ok they're bad again.. ok they help stop cancer... oh wait no they cause cancer... oh wait no no they're good.
People make the world a bad place.

I wonder if we will see all the great deals on generators and water purifiers after 2012 we saw after 2000?

Iran has a Bigger issue they attack any of Israels IDF forces. Well the Gloves will be coming off and this is an Air war that Iran will not not win. COnsidering that anything they have US built is 30 years old and the F-15 is the Best in Air to Air and the IAF boys train harder than anyone in that.

Feeds right into the those that believe the world will end in 2012.

The media and internet do a lot better at getting information out to be sure.
In 1980 the USSR and Cuba were still threats, causing problems in Afghanistan and South America, Iran was holding US Hostages, Palestinian Liberation Organization ring a bell? Marxists raising hell in South America, Libya causing problems in the Middle East, Double Digit inflation and Unemployment in the US. Things were not rosey.

Don't forget the 1973 "Oil Crisis" and the 1979 "Oil Embargo". Even numbered tags got gas only on even numbered days, and odd numbered tags only on odd numbered days....remember that?
I went on a weekend trip with 3 friends in '73 to visit a perspective college. As the 2 ladies in the group went to the open house, my buddy and I spent the entire weekend waiting in line(s) for enough gas to make it back home. We drove around until we found a line of cars on the side of the road and figured there must be a gas pump ahead. After an hour, the station ran out 3 cars in front of us. We started back with what we had, stopped at a station and slept in the car until it opened the next morning, only to find they had no gas. I'll never forget those times.
Remember the "Misery Index"? We were all so depressed that a name and number was devised to quantify it. It still exists here: (note how much better it is today than back then)

Gas lines were fun. I remember getting in line a couple hours before the station was opening and watching a couple people go at it when a guy tried to cut in line. The cutter ended up with a broken windshield. Came back with a cop and we are all "what fight? Broken window, I know nothing". Cop had the yeah right look on his face. He knew exactly what went on.

If NASA says we're gonna have bad solar flares, I'll expect record cold and no flares at all. Remember this is the same NASA who in one report said that while the Earths temperature had decreased almost 1.5 degrees from 2000-2009, we are in dramatic global warming and that they needed more funding to study the "problem". The only serious problem we have today is life is too easy and we have too much time, and news, on our hands. Anyone remember Heaven's Gate or The People's Temple? It's too easy to get wrapped up in news that, at the end of the day, really is just more of the same. It just seems worse when we dwell on it.
