Is there a benefit for treating ick with hypo vs. copper?

Hypo is better. Less stressful. Copper will kill everything in a reef. Inverts and corals. Plus your also exposing your fish to a toxic chemical. BUT you cant do hypo in the main tank either. Has to be a seperat QT tank because the low salinity will kill LR, LR inverts and corals.

I know about the inability to use copper in a reef, etc.. Was wondering about the comparison of treatment of both options in a q-tank. So copper medication puts a fish under greater stress than dropping the salinity to 1.009? Are there studies that show this, or is this just something you've heard people say? Are there any studies that show that both methods achieve complete eradication of the parasite?

QUOTE:
"When mature, the parasite breaks out of the cyst and after some time as a free-swimming form encysts on any suitable substrate such as the sand or rocks and divides many times to produce the infective forms (Colorni, 1987). The infective forms must find a suitable host or they will die. "
This may be a silly question, but if the parasite needs substrate or rock to survive, then wouldn't just putting the infected fish in a tank with no substate rid the ick after the cycle completes?
