I am trying to see if there is an inexpensive way to put together a light system made up of:
4-96 watt 10K PC's and 2-90 watt VHO actinics
I am going to build a hood and am trying to find out if I will need to spend $500 plus on the lighting or if I can build this for lots less...?
This will be on a 120 gallon 60x18x26 tank.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

You can get 4-96 watt PC retrofit kit for $320.00 with 48 inch reflector. You could start with those and keep quite abit of corals.

Do you think the 48" would be long enough for the 60" tank?
Where would be a good place to consider purchasing the retro from?
Thanks

You will only loose 6 inches on each end so it won't be a big deal. The majority of the bulbs will be under the reflector. Just paint the canopy gloss white and that will reflect alot of light also.

Thanks for the help. Where can I go to purchase the retro?
And the reflector.
I think you have quite a tank by the way. I am shocked that you are able to just use the contents of the tank and the skimmer to obtain the nice coral, and overall health of your tank.
I am creating/setting up my new tank, and appreciate all of your help.

Since SWF.com does not sell lights I will e-mail you the link if you post your e-mail.
I really think that most people put way to many fish into their tank which requires lots more filtration that usually only postpones a crisis. Lots of people will also put tons of rock into their tank thinking that they are benefiting with more biofiltration but they are also reducing alot of the water volume which requires more water volume in means of a sump. It really does not take alot of rock and sand to get rid of ammonia and nitrite. You need to have a huge bioload to fully utilize a tank full of rock for biofiltration and then you run into all kinds of problems from overstocking related problems. I like less fish, more water volume and more swimming room inside the tank instead of lots of rock, huge skimmer, refugium and a sump.
