Is there an additive thats reef safe to kill green algae???

Hi all
Im having this algae problem. I get a lot of green algae on the front and sides of my tank. Its green.. Someone at a local (kinda seedy) fish store said there was a reef safe additive that wont hurt corals or coraline, that will kill algae...
Is there really such a thing?

I wouldn't add any chemicals in the tank that aren't really needed. If your having an algae problem, there are other ways to deal with it. There are many inverts and fish that eat algae. Also, if your not already using RO water I would start ASAP. I would almost bet that your algae problem is due to using tap water... :D

DEFINITELY
I can think of a few
LMB
Tang
Snails
Conchs
(some) Crabs
My Hand
But as for Chemicals, NOT any that I would use.

I would not use any chemical either for removal/killing of any algae in the tank.
Algae is part of the game.
Controlling nuisance algae is also part of the game - the part that is hard to get a good handle on sometimes.
In my opinion, by killing most ANYTHING that would normally grow in a marine tank - you may very well throw something else out of whack.
Many here including myself - feel it's usually better to find out why the algae is growing as it is - and deal with the cause ~ not the effect.
Things to look for when trying to figure it out;
Lighting.
Excess nutrients in the form of phosphates / nitrates.
All additives that you dose.
Freshwater source - are you using tap or RO or RO/DI ?
Feeding - What foods and how often ?
Number of fish vs. size of tank.
Did I say lighting duration - how long vs what corals you keep.
Clean-up Crew - do you have a good mix of janitors ?
Introduction of algae on live rock or other source ?
Maintenance routine.
Skimmer ?

I'd go for the cleaner crew, no unnecessary chemicals. The cleaners may not get all of it, but a little algae here and there doesn't look all that bad. Besides, it's perfectly natural. I can't speek for everyone, but I want my tank to look as much like the real thing as possible. :D
