is there such a thing as too much flow?

I asked for a koralia nano for christmas for my 5.5gallon AGA. I have a ac20 that seems to not really produce too much flow...mainly just in one direction. Would a koralia nano be too much flow you think? I was going to put it in the corner and blow it across the tank long ways i have a cyano problem and i think it would help keep the particles suspended

In a 5.5, a koralia nano would give you 43 times turnover. That does not sound too harsh. Plenty of people turn their tanks over 30-40 times per hour.
But to answer the original question, yes - there is such a thing as too much flow. For example, a koralia 1 in the 5.5 would be way too much flow (73 times turnover). What if you did a koralia 2?? That would be 109 times turnover (that is, if you have water left in the tank to turnover that many times
).

sweeet i hope it isnt too bad : / i had a penguin filter for a 50gallon and it blew sand into a little trench and i didnt like it. The nice thing on the koralia is the fact that it spreads the flow out on the sides as well as forward hopefully it works out!

It might also be worthwhile to consider what you'll be keeping. If it's just softies, sometimes they don't like higher flow rates. If it's LPS and SPS they love the high flow. Just thought I'd mention it.

yeah im mainly doing it for the fact that i have cyano i just need something to keep water moving behind all the rocks. Ill fiddle with it hopefully it works out otherwise ill just take it out and keep it, i plan on needing one for my Red Sea whenever i set that up as well as if i go through with my 20long summer project

wow i would have thought that would have been a little much. im going to be setting up a 5.5 during my xmas vacation. i will be using a maxijet 600 (160gph) and that would give me a 30x turnover rate. so 43 just sounds high. lion crazz knows his stuff, so i am not disputing it, but like monk said. it might depend of live stock. some corals mite not like that much flow and detach

yeah im kinda nervous about it so i may end up not even using the powerhead and saving it. I know ill need it eventually.

yeah i know,, thanks. Also cant you turn the flow down on the koralia nano? I thought you could control it from 260gph to 100gph
