and by that I mean is there an aquarium that must be set up for red sea fish/inverts compared to a conventional sw aquarium? I see "red sea" specimens for sale but wonder if they need a higher salinity? thoughts?

Oooooh a Red Sea reef! That is a good idea! I've been noticing a lot of fishes and inverts and even corals that are from there and was wondering whether to make our aquarium a Red Sea reef. Why do you ask if it needs a higher salinity? It really seems feasible to have a Red Sea reef .... but come to think about it I've never seen live rock from the Red Sea. I urge you to research a bit on that but a Red Sea reef would be awesome!

ive always thought/heard that the salinity is higher in that region than anywhere else for marine life. But what sparked the idea was my lfs has a tank designated "red sea" anything from corals, fish, inverts etc in it. Of course i never really asked anyone there, but something tells me i wont get a straightforward answer that i think i can get here. Lol and its by no means a Zen thought ;)

I love Red Sea specimens. Most places (around here anyways) will have them marked as Red Sea on the tank. The salinity, as well as the temp, is on the high side. I kept them at 1.024 and 82 degrees.
