The Orange Tree Gorgonian (Swiftia exserta)is a great addition to the reef tank of an intermediate or advanced aquarist. Due to the extra care required for this item, it should not be housed in anything but a mature reef tank, and mature is defined in this case as a tank set up fully with rock and marine life for no less than one year. This gorgonian is not photosynthetic, so it will require regular feeding of micro feeding foods such as Marine Snow, Kent Marine’s Micro-Vert, and similar products. This item is not for beginners. It is critical that this organism be placed in an area of high water flow in an aquarium to keep it free of algae growth as well as well as other nuisance growth. If algae does take hold, it must be removed immediately and this can be accomplished using a small, soft brush such as a brand new unused soft toothbrush.
Anchoring this gorgonian to a small piece of live rock so that it can stand up in a tank will make positioning it in areas of high water flow much easier.
