Is this a mushroom growin

This looks like a mushroom to me starting to grow, but is kind of flat to me. It came on some LR I purchased recently.

I can't tell too well from the picture, but it doesn't look like a mushroom to me. Maybe some coralline or just a mystery thing. Give it some time, you'll figure out.

well, is it formed to the rock or is it sort of flapping there???? You could try waving your hand next to it to see if it moves if you can't visually ID it, most sponges wont react to that small of a current. A mushroom should have a "mouth" at the very center and be almost to perfectly symetrical all the way around.

If it is a sponge, are they all safe. It just doesn't look like any sponge I have seen. It has some hairlike tentacles.

sponges are perfectly safe, just not all of them are very attractive.
