Is this a sponge or what is it????

I don't know what this is. It has a sponge-like appearance with smaller circular spots on it that appear to be raised. I need to ID this thing; good or bad? The second image shows its size in relation to a hermit crab.

It may be a sponge, or a little leather coral hitch hiker. It looks VERY small in comparison to the shell, so i wouldnt worry too much about it. Just watch it grow over a few weeks and see what it does. Try and get another really close clear pic, would make it easier to identify.

looksmore like A piece of coral but I could be mistaken. a sponge would have "holes" in it, if you can ghet a clearer picture it would help, I know how tough that can be.

From the size, the only thing that comes to mind would *maybe* be a type of sps coral's tissue

What type of coral do you think it could be? It's pretty weird looking. Maybe Acropora?

im not that good at id,s on corals but i have seen this a number of times on live rock. mabie some type of Siderastreidae.
