Ok so i bought 2 frags of zoanthids yesterday. 19.99 a frag. Nice price i thought. But as i was looking at the tank in the lfs i seen these wierd looking anenome things all OVERRRRR there tanks. I ask what are these ? And the guy says Anenomica or some B.S. i am like huh ? And he said these are anenomica S.P. , i say um. they loook like aiptasia. And he goes to another tank that is just COMPLETELY full of them . On the glass on the back plastic on everything in the tank and even has it written on tank "Anenomica SP not AIPTASIA SP" so i was like um... Well when he gave me 1 small frag i seen 3 on it and i say um. do you mind taking those off and he replied with... Well they wont hurt anything but you can just pinch them off when you get home if you want. So here is a pic in a small tank i have setup after my dt crash a few weeks ago. Didnt want to just throw them in my 24 aquapod dt and they run it over. So if anyone knows what this is let me know please and sorry for bad photo.

Also there is not any aiptasia or whatever that is on the other frag , so whats up with the freshwater dip and how do you go about doing that ? Because i did see a bug crawling on the frag rock, so i would like to get rid of it if possible. Would i just put it in a bowl of fresh water for about 2 or 3 minutes and let it sit and then put it into my dt ? Thanks for your help.

Thanks.... So i have read many many methods of getting rid of them. What do you think is the best ? Should i just run to the LFS and get some Joes Juice if they have it or what ? Should i try to squit some boiling water into it ? And also there is one that is so tiny i dont even think i can get to it. Should i leave it until it gets bigger and then waste it or what ? Thanks for the useful help. And quick response.

Same here, and then I would no longer shop in that store if the employee obviously has no idea what aiptasia is.

Ok so i got a product called Aiptasia Control made by Blue Vet. And i put 1cc of it into syringe and squirted it onto of biggest aiptasia. Awww i felt so bad to kill a creature. It seems so horrible. It looked as if it was going to eat the poison. It went right onto its mouth and it swallowed it and then jerked in and looks like its trying to spit it out but i think its already killed it. I see it making a jerk movement every couple minutes or so but i thinks its wasted. Is this humane to kill these anenomes ? What is so bad about them anyways ? It doesnt seem like it was bothering anything but hey i am no expert. But 1 is dead. I am wait til tomorrow to kill the other because it seems pretty harsh to do it.

I had a couple of small aiptasia in my aquapod also. I moved in two little peppermint shrimp and let nature take it's course. The shrimp gobbled them up within a couple of days. Aiptasia will take over your tank if given some time. One of hte aiptasia was attached to a beautiful frag of orange bams I have, it was stinging the heck out of the polyps now I have happy shrimp and healthy zoas

The problem with aiptasia is that even though they do look kinda cool they will spread like wildfire and will sting any other corals that they come into contact with.

Ohhh ok. I didnt know that they will sting corals. Thanks for that advice. I am nuking them starting today. The one i hit yesterday with the injection i can still see its tube stuck into the rock. Last night it shriveled all up and looked dead but today its tube is still there. I cant seem to pull it out without it ripping pieces off. What do i do ? Never had any of these pests. Thanks
