Figures.... I've been staring at my live rock for a week now with a magnifying glass and flashlight for signs of life and the one thing that has proven to amuse me each night is this and it's bad, right?

Sue, it's a fuzzy picture but yes, it appears to be aptasia. Not a big deal, unless you are infested with it, but it's best to terminate it as soon as possible to avoid an infestation. Pickup some Joes Juice from your lfs....works instantly.

I should have mentioned in my original post -- it extends it's "neck/stalk" when the lights are out and retracts back into the rock when I turn the lights on. Is it still aptasia? Just my luck - since it was the only sign of life I was finding for those first two weeks of the new tank I was getting attached to it. LOL

There are a lot of different types of aiptasia. Google aiptasia and you will run across many, many photos. This one looks like some I've seen from Hawaii.

Thanks. Yes, I have Googled it and got confused because there were so many different kinds. I guess since it's only one (at this point) and since I find it amusing and entertaining (I really need to get a life!) I'll leave it alone until I get to know my tank and it's inhabitants better. Thanks!
