10 blue leg hermits
sally lightfoot crab
emerald crab
is that too many rock crawling inverts for a 10? what else can i add? i dont think i want a conch.. i dunno.. i'll be getting shrimp later.. can i have two sally light foots? and do i need snails? are they better then hermits at some stuff? i dont like them on my glass..
also, are they all pretty hardy? what kind of bio load do they produce? my ammonia is 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates are about 5 and has been for about 6 days.. 3 of which had a raw scallop decaying in there.
I have 16# of LR and 20# of LS
my tank has been up for about 8 days now

hermits are fairly useless, especially the blue legs, i would save my money. yeahh you can have 2 sallys, also id say get like 20 nassarius snails for the sandbed and glass, maybe a couple mexican turbo snails.
these are all pretty hardy, you might want to be careful with the shrimp though, ive never had good luck with them..
have fun

theyre small, most dont stay on the glass. i have about 50 in my 29g and right now i can only see 4 on the glass. theyre mostly under the sand except at feeding time. for your tank i would say about 10-20, its up to you. if you were going to do hermits, i would reccomend the jades, they seem to be the best for the money. personally i dont like turbo snails because they are bulky and lethargic, plus some kinds (astrea? i think...) die if they get flipped over. if you get some get the mexican turbos, theyre better IMO. i reccommended them because your tank is new and you are in for a freakin huge algea bloom.

yes they eat diatoms, waste, excess food, and detritus, which is basically gunk that builds up in the sand and is a combination of the above. they also agitate the sand and keep it mixed up.
the turbos are mor like indultrial algae garzers that concentrate more on live rock and glass, and they eat harder algae that the nassarius snails cand eat.
BTW i almost never see nassarius snails on the live rocks, and if you keep the glass clean (scrape the algae off of it) you you probably wont see many there either because theres no food there!
good luck!

I have found the snails are much more usefull cleaners than the hermits, at least from an algae perspective. The turbos will die if they flip over so you have to keep an eye on them but I have had few problems with that happening. You may have problems particularly with the more aggressive hermits (blue legs for one) snacking on the snails if they can and sometimes steal shells. I have had to restock snails already due to being eaten, so IMO heavier on snail population than hermits, and they don't become too overcrowded again IMO so 12-15 would probably be fine even in a small tank like yours. Hope this helps!

for my clean up crew in my 14 i have 3 blu leg hermits (just there to look good), 2 dozen nass snails, 1 mex turbo, 1 skunk shrimp, 3 peppermint shrimps, and a queen conch. Water looks great and the sand does too.
