Ok so I have asked everyone if my fuzzy is male or female and no one can tell me. I have read that females have 4-6 stripes on pectoratol fins and males have 6 + stripes. So im thinking dark stripes or light stripes or do you add both? I think mine has 6 so that doesnt help me. The someone said that the pectoral fin has to be longer that the caudal fin to be a male and mines not. I want to get mine a buddy and I need help. Can anyone tell me if mine is male or female from this pic? Its name is monster. :)

I've never seen any reliable info on sexing Fuzzys; there may be a way, though. They usually do well together, so I don't think gender matters; you sure won't get them to spawn anyhow. I'd just be sure the new one is close to the same size as the one you have.

I remember something about male fuzzy dwarf lions having less stripes than females. But I don't remember the exact number. Sorry.

Males do have 6+ stripes, and females have 4-6, well like you said. Also males have bigger heads than females. I think yours is a male, but I'm not sure.

lol thanks for your help. its so hard to tell. no one really knows for sure. Hes in a 72 gal with a baby foxface and a lawnmower. I just switched him to silversides. The funniest thing ive never seen anything to beat it. My foxface follows him around like a lost puppy. Everywhere my lion goes fox follows and even will sit right beside him on the ground, lol inseperable.

its a FEMALE--
it has less than 6 dark stripes, and the pec fins do NOT reach the caudal peduncle.
feel free to google search for my name and lionfish and you'll find the article on husbandry and breeding these fish

please google; marini + lionfish=
you'll find the lionfish info sheet.
yes you can breed these fish in captivity, a small harem of 2-3 females and one male works best, they will produce a gelatinous spawn which hatches in 2-3 days. Now this is where everyone gets stuck, the fry are incredibly small and its been a bear to get any fry to survive--but you gotta start somewhere.
Ive also heard of folk w/ 300+ gal tanks getting P russells to spawn as well. The key is large spaces, and live SW feeders.
Lastly, i've had the opportunity ot observe a pair of P Radiata in the wild produce spawn as well, I can understand why we don't see much spawning in these fish, they have a very large and involved spawning ascension
