Is this normal for a snail?

My snail is half way out of his shell, I asked mom if i should get a bigger shell, but she said they reproduce their own shell or something like that. So if that is true, then why is mine half way out of his shell?

She is right though, snails do not change shells. They continuously make them. Either way I wouldn't worry about it, even when they die they tend to stay in the shell. Mine will have their whole foot spread way out and they will look like they're barely holding onto the shell but that's just when they're cruising and eating.
Basically if they're out and about, they're fine.
