Is this normal on a toadstool?

I have a picture below of my toadstool leather that I have had for 4 months or so. I am wondering if the yellowish brown stuff coming up from the base of the mushroom is normal? It started only covering the bottom half inch of the shaft and has not moved up to cover two inches or so of it. What is this and is it something that I should be worried about?

Picture doesn't work for me (at work) but I've had a brown slime coating that started covering the base of mine before I added my massive clean up crew... it just peeled away more or less and wasn't actually part of the toadstool.
