As far as the only growing 3 inches thing I couldn't really tell you, nor do I wanna go toe to toe with a Marine Biologist, however I will tell you with a small tank size ( I assume you have a 40 gallon according to your profile) I would make COMPLETELY sure you have the optimum lighting filtration and water quality, for that blue star. Simply because the most seasoned hobbyist has VERY hard time keeping Blue Stars alive.
The fish amount sounds great in my opinion, just make sure you have l/r or l/s or both to create that much needed bacteria to better filter and cycle your water.
Later :D

everything is breat! iv had the clowns for over a month now. i hav a fluval 303 PACKED with bio-rings and foam. i have cc. im getting the newest PRIZM protien simmer soon. heard they were amazingly good

Not for nothin', but I would possibly count the tang out...I would only recommend any kind of tang to a 75g to start out with...sometimes an upgrade may be needed from that...

I also agree that the tang should not be put in anything less than a 75...And as far as one that only grows two or three inches,,,BULL S#*!@...I'd like to see that in person...I would also skip the cuke. They are not hardy at all in a tank. And will release a toxin that could quite possibly wipe out the whole tank When(not if) it dies...The rest of the setup sounds OK,But with the canister filled with bio material you MUST be carefull about overstocking this tank. You will get very high nitrate readings.then uncontrolable algae outbreaks,,,then fish dieoffs...
