Is this sump correct?

I want a simple 10 gallon sump for my 46g No fuge or anything just something to put my equipment in.
Is this how its done.....
Left side has the pipe running down from the overfill area up on the back of the tank. The water is sucked through the glass bubble traps from the far right side by a pump that returns the water back up into the tank. My question is, what kind of pump do I use on the return line?
Is that it or am i missing something?
Also where would I place my skimmer? Its a hang on back skimmer. Can it go anywhere in the 10 gallon?

Sounds like you kinda got it. With the in-flow tube on the left, you'll put the bubble trap just to the right of the pipe. Then on the far right you can put your return pump (For your tank I think a 500 gph would work fine) You'll have to see what your overflow is rated for and keep the pump under that GPH. Depending on the HOB skimmer that you have I'm not sure that you'll be able to use it in the sump. I don't think that all of them are able to generate enough power to raise the water all the way to the skimmer. You want to make sure that you leave enough space in the sump so that if your power goes out the backflow will not overflow the sump (You'd be surprised how much water will backflow). The pump does not necessarally 'suck' the water through the sump - it's more like the pump pushes water to the DT then your overflow directs the overflowing water back to the sump via gravity.

The over flow box I have in mind does not have a pump on it. Its just a box that the water falls into and drains into the sump. Will that still work with a mag5 returning the water? Should I go to a 20gallon tank instead of a 10
My skimmer uses the surface skimmer but you can take it off and the pump will be more submerged in the sump. Im using an octopus 100ss

anything just something to put my equipment in.
Calculate the footprint of your equipment to see what size tank would be appropriate for your needs

The overflow box does not need a pump on it. It should have a gph rating that will let you know how much water it can handle. As far as a 20 v a 10, if you can fit the 20 I would. The more volume the better. I'm not sure about the skimmer, I would have to see a picture of it or get the exact model and look up what it's capable of.

I would also go for the twenty because you have to figure the amount of water displacement. You have to set this up to be prepared for a power outage. If you have both tanks full, then when the the water from the main tank flows back into the sump, it will overflow.
So aside from that, your overflow should have a number of gallons per hour it can handle. Choose a pump accordingly.
I have an octo 100bh hob on my 20 gallon sump. Another good thing about a 20 gallon sump is that you can make a chamber for a refugium. I would recommend putting the skimmer in the first chamber or the first part of the sump.
Good luck with your sump and as always PUT SOME PICTURES UP WHEN YOU'RE DONE!
