I bought a xenia this weekend, guy told me he would last in a bag for 24 hours but when i got home it detached off the rock. does it look dead to you guys or should i leave it in the tank for a few days? it's the one in the middle of the 2 healthy xenias. i have it pinned down with a rock right now.

It doesn't look all that healthy. Did it have a foul stench to it when you moved it from bag to display? Xenia are very bad shipper from what I've heard so if you had it in the bag for 12+ hours I'd be concerned about how well it could adjust. Maybe give it some time and see if it pulls thru...if it doesn't remove it before it has a chance to foul your water.

I'd leave it in. I got a free xenia from my lfs. It just about melted when i put it in the tank, but I left it in anyways. There was what looked like a puddle remaining and from that, new xenia started to grow. Now about 2 months later, I have 3 good sized healthy stalks.

i looked today when i got home from work and that thing floated away, i can't find it anywhere. maybe it will grow somewhere else in the tank.

If there is still some "leftovers" from the main stalk it can and will grow into a new stalk if you have the right conditions..

If it were me, I would be searching for it. If it is indeed dead and lost, your tank may suffer a bit, hopefully your clean up crew attacked it. If you cant find it--keep up with water changes and checking parameters.
