Hey everybody,
I was lookin into MH's. The one I was lookin at has (2) 150watt 10k HQI-MH with (2) 130 watt dual actinic and 6 lunar lights. I want to put these over my 55g reef. A friend of mine told me that this is too much light. I want to be able to keep a clam or 2 and possibly an anemone. Would this be ok or would it be overkill?? I currently have power compact with (2) 65watt dual daylight, (2) 65watt dual actinic and 4 lunar lights. Everything in there is doin very well. Just wanted to know where to take it from here. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks guys

IMO no, as long as you can keep heat stable, and acclimate the corals to the light over a period of time.
i know a guy who has 1 400HQI over a 30g frag tank, and another guy with 2 400w mogul over a 40g breeder.

how would you guys recommend acclimating everything to the new light? sorry if this is a noob question but I'm still on my first set of lights.

I would start out running the new lights for a couple three hours then gradually add more hours, that way the corals can adjust easier to the stronger light. Worked for me. Good luck with the new light setup.

This is kinda related to the same question... But how are you supposed to acclimate new corals to the lighting (800w MH on a 90) when there is already established coral in there? or dont you? Thanks, and sorry for kina hijacking the thread.

I would still cut back the light some because the established corals wouldnt get as stressed with the lights being off for a little longer.
Good luck.
