It's a sad day

I don't know how it happened but my favorite fish got in to some trouble today. I still only have fw tanks but I like my fish, and my favorite cichlid is about to bite the big one. I got home from work today to find him mangled and weak. I'm not sure what happened, either he got sick and the other cichlid's in the tank decided to nibble on him or he got in a really bad fight and just got killed. He is still alive but in bad condition. I isolated him in a seperate tank in hopes that I can somehow bring him back to health. His fins are pretty bad and he doesn't seem to want to eat. Assuming he makes it through the night any suggestions on how to bring him back up to full health or whether or not it is even possible.

Well, I have been in the Freshwater business for a much longer time than I have been in the Marine hobby. I have 2 Cichlid tanks and I have had them destroy some of my favorite fish. Just curious but what fish was it?

The Tank it was in was a 55g I put in a 10g tank by itself to try to revive him. SO far it seems to working. he is still alive and seems to be doing a little better. Do fish fins grow back? This fish's fins are pretty badly mangled so I am hoping he will pull through.
