My mom wants to buy me a protien skimmer for my birthday (cause thats what I asked for lol)
Im looking for a good one for a 75 gal tank. Id like an in sump one, but a hob is okay too. Id like it to stay under $200
I was reading about reef octopus brand. Seemed decent got good reviews, and good prices, are these reccomended? I was looking at the pinwheel impeller model rated for upto 100 gal.

I've heard good things about octo's, but haven't used one myself. I used to have an ASM skimmer that did a decent job of pulling crap out of the water, but I had some issues with the pump that came with it. I don't know if I'd recommend it to others.
I'm currently running a Precision Marine Bullet II. I like it, but it costs twice as much as the one you were looking at and it doesn't come with a pump. It's also pretty bulky and the beckett foam jet needs a good vinegar soak occasionally to avoid clogging. You can probably get much more bang for your buck with newer skimmers like the reef octopus or SWC brands.

I have the SWC 160 cone on my 65 and 40 sump works great - had an issue with the pump but they replaced it. Salt Water Connection i believe, they are made in Canada.

Both SWC and Octopus skimmers are very good. Might add very similar.... SWC might be a bit cheaper as well.

I really like the Octopus, I like the Tunz as well, but pretty pricey. I don't know how I missed your Birthday.....

The SWc cone skimmers have an easy off/on skimmer cup as well - only requires 1/2 verticle height to remove. Believe me it is a good skimmer.

Thanks, I havent gotten the chance to look at them yet, but they seem very compareable... I guess price will be the deciding factor
