Iwaki - American Motor or Japanese Motor?

I see that there are different prices for the Iwaki pumps with American made motors vs. the Japanese made motors. The American made models are cheaper.
Is there any qualitative difference?

The Japanese pumps use more metal parts in them. The bracket the goes between the motor and the pump housing is cast alum. on a "J," it's plastic on an "A." Conceivably, this could make the A pumps quieter.
I have only bought Iwaki's used and reconditioned them, and by cooincidence, all of mine have been J. I'd have no problem buying the American model. They are made with Fasco motors, which are fine motors.
I can tell you that both pumps use industry standard replaceables in the motors (bearings, limit switches, capacitors), so you'll have no problems down the road if you have a problem. Any small motor shop can fix either one.

So the american verison is quieter? Can anyone confirm this? Also anyone else have/try the panworld/blueline pumps?

Careful... that's not what I said. I've never heard the American units operate. I think that the plastic parts could help dampen the vibration between the motor and the pump housing, as well as dampen the noise from the magnetic coupling.
Additionally, salt water will eventually rust any ferrous parts and pit/oxidize aluminum, and since the part I am talking about is where any water leaking from the plumbing would end up, plastic might actually be longer lasting.
All Iwakis are quiet. Very quiet. I have 55s and 70s. The 55s are much quieter, the 70s main noise comes from the sound of water rushing through, and that's really nothing that can be helped.

I have a huge Iwaki (Japenese) MD-70RLT its 1500gph and its crazy loud. Mainley because of the fan on the unit. I was impress with the low VIbrations this pump put out. Just remember to prime it before you kick it on. HEATS UP alot. I left the canopy doors closed and opeand them and i could deffinetly feal a difference.
I allso have a Iwaki (American) WMD20RLXT its 540gph and i can barly hear it. MAG-driven, low vibration. But it allso doesnt have a huge fan blowing.
So i think it depends on what size pump your looking for. Each pump is going to generate a differnt level of sound Why dont you tell us that and im shure i either know someone that has it or i have had it.

I know my Sequence Hammerhead is quieter than my Iwaki's for sure.....Dead quiet you'd want to look at the Red Dragon pumps, but after you see the price tag on those babies you'll wanna drop dead!!!!!!!!!!

MattyOh the Sequence pumps are more energy efficient than the Iwaki's as well. These pumps are designed and can be throttled back on the output side that will not hurt the pumps at all and will actually slow the motors down reducing energy consumption as well......

Well, I need something that puts out about 1300 gph at 0' of head. I'm thinking the Iwaki MD40RLXT would be ideal in terms of flow.
Does anyone have experience with this pump? Is it quieter than other pumps?
I currently have a Coralife Turbo-Sea 1270 and it is too loud. Vibrations (even with a rubber mouse pad under the pump) and audible noise are simply unacceptable.

If you want a really nice pump look at the Sequence line of pumps....they will have exactly what you want as far as flow and noise.....
