My question is are they hard to take care of and i don't want one to

Dear hobbyist, jaw fish are not hard to keep at all. Jaw fish are docile, and should be placed in the aquarium first in order to establish its territory. They can be defensive over their home. Do not place them in a tank with aggressive tank mates,or your jaw fish will be picked on and possibly eaten. Enjoy the hobby

Nice little fish. I kept a mated pair for a couple years. They do burrow to make a den so unstable rockwork could topple. You also need to make sure they have a deep enough substrate to make a suitable den. 3-4 inches would be minimal and more is better. Have lots of small rubble pieces and shells for them to buttress the den entrance. They won't do well with aggressive mates; angels, dottyybacks, large blennys or gobies. They also spook very easily so make sure the top of the tank is well covered or they can launch.
