JBJ HQ1 Protein Skimmer

I have had my tank up and running for a month and have done a few water changes. After my last change (20%), I installed the (included) protein skimmer. Now, the water looks dirty (although the levels are still fine) AND I can't open the lid.

Are protein skimmers necessary? If yes, suggestions on how to fix these problems?
Thanks!

i have been running my tank for about 5 months and havent needed a skimmer. Just make sure to do a waterchange everyweek and you will be fine

Well, I took out the skimmer today. One of the airhoses was broken and it appeared to making bubbles in the tank, so I just decided that was a sign to remove it. If anyone thinks this is a horrible plan and that I really need to get a protein skimmer, please, PLEASE let me know. I am also open to suggestions about which kind of skimmer to get. Obviously, the skimmer that came with the NanoCube was not sufficient.

I got a Bio Cube nano Protein skimmer last month... IT seems like it helped make my tank a bit clearer, as far as water quality was concerned... I have always done 20% water change weekly... But seems to help.... Seemed to make everything open a bit better also... Boils down to personal prefrence... :)
