Which would you choose for a Biocube 14? The viper light is very easy to come by, the sunpod not so much as they do not make them anymore, but I figured I could eventually find one used. The viper is a clip-on style. Any experiences with either? All opinions are appreciated.

I went through the same thing when I set up my 15 gallon last year. I couldn't find the Sunpod 70 anywhere and with research found that the Viper is unreliable. I ended up with Sunpod 150 and happy with it. Especially with a Phoenix 14K bulb.
Just be prepared to set up a fan to blow across the surface for cooling.

well at my Lfs they had a 14 bio cube with the viper and it look really great. And the sunpod is nice to but idk. I rather go for the viper. And also since its a clip on you have more room. While the sunpod you have room but not as much.

Be careful here though. I believe when I was looking at the 150 viper for my 29 gallon I found that the clamping mechanism would intrude into the middle chamber of the 29 almost rendering it useless.
Just a heads up.

Hmm, ok I will look into that, thanks spanko

If you could hang the fixture, you would be ok with the sunpod 150. The sunpod's docking legs are also on a track, so the fixture would just look a little big. Just watch the temperature and youd be fine IMO

Can't post links on here and you can't pm yet

For a 29 gallon Biocube, get a 150 watt sunpod
Problem solved.

My friend has the viper on his 14 and it looks fine, his second chamber is still useful and because it is a clip on he can raise the height really easily. No temp issues.
But I haven't heard about the sunpod this is just what I've seen.

I think the viper is the light I am going to get in a few months once my stock lights are shot.
Can't wait.
