I bought a cheap Jebo 180 skimmer for a small tank that I have. I hooked it up today and the skimmer cup filled up with water so fast that it overflowed onto the floor. It is a hob skimmer with an AP 1500 ph. Anybody have any insight as to why this happened. I know that a few of you have Jebo skimmers as well. I guess you get what you pay for.

Did you try to adjust the flow? I can't remember exactly on that model, but adjusting the air intake helps.

Under the maintenance section it tells you what to do to prevent the problem I had. I don't really understand it but I guess Ill have to figure it out. It probably should have come pre ready so that this would not happen.

I think I figured it out and will test it tomorrow in a rubbermaid container so I don't overflow the tank again. Thanks.

I have a jebo 180 that has overflowed twice on me. I don't know if yours is set up the same way but mine has an air tube that goes to a venturri at the pump inlet, on the end of the air tube is a valve to control how much air gets sucked in. If you restrict the air the thing overflows ... also it becomes restricted by itself sometimes, so I've made it a habit to suck on the end of the air hose every couple of days to flush some water through the venturri, and haven't had any problems since. Otherwise the skimmer has worked fine.

Yeah, I completely removed the air valve and the water now goes to the bottom of the cup. I wouldn't think you should have to do that though but it was a cheap skimmer.
I have never had a skimmer before so I guess I had a little bump in the road. Does the water that goes up into the tube when you turn the skimmer on all eventually empty into the tank again? The reason I ask is because the water level in the tank really goes down when you first turn the skimmer on.

I have a jebo 180...and had the same problem you did...basically i did what you did and removed the airvalve for about 1 week or so.....this will help break in you skimmer...it takes times i noticed for this model...basically you want to have the level of water just up to the very bottom opening of the skimmer...eventually bubbles with are the tank crap will go in to the collection cup
