Hello Everyone!
This is my first time posting on here, but have been lurking for quite a bit... Anyways, I saw this add on craigslist for a fish tank for 50$ so decided to check it out. Talked to the Seller on the phone and he said it was a 24G nano. I couldn't pass up this offer so I speeded to his house and bought it... Turns out it is a 12G.
w/e... still an okay price. I just went to my lfs to get it started and got...
- 4 1/2 punds of live rock ($4 a lb.)
- A jug of water to fill the tank
- Sand
Looks all murky now but I am super excited about this little tank. This is my first fish tank, but i have had a few reptiles before. I'm in highschool and spending my own money so i am gonna take this slow. My dad is going to give me some tips because he used to have a couple of 40G tanks... I need all the advice i can get so feel free to give me some. I will post some pics once the water clears...

Welcome to the site!
First you add live rock (you already did)
Then you throw a raw dead shrimp in the tank, and let it cycle.. let the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate spike...
Then you add a cuc (clean up crew)
then come the fish and corals...
can't wait to see how this turns out!

Tomorrow the tank should be mostly clear and i will take some pics... The guy at my lfs told me i could add some hermit crabs to the tank, so i guess i will pick up a couple of those tomorrow... but other then that i just get to wait....

I would not add any live stock. You really need to let the tank cycle. Do a search - there are lots of threads on it. It will take a few weeks for this before adding anything. You are also going to need more rock. There are places that sell base rock or dead rock. Google Marco rock. this is much cheaper then adding all live rock and the dead will become alive in time.

ok, so this may be a stupid question but, what should i put in the back dividers instead of the bioballs that are already in there? or should i just leave the bioballs?
