Hi, just wanted to ask before i get a Watchman Goby if anyone has ever had an experience of them jumping out of an open top tank?

Mine never have. I have a mated pair that live with a pair of pistol shrimp. But I never have had a yellow watchman without a pistol shrimp so don't know what it would do without one to stay with. I would recommend getting a tiger pistol to keep it company and less stressed. They make a nice addition to a sand bed. Preferably a DSB and if you don't have that pile a deep section at one end of the tank and they will take to it.
But as to being jumpers, I don't believe they are.

I had mine in the qt for two months. He did great. I moved him to my DT. He did great, he was out and eating very well. One day he went missing. I found him on the floor. All that was in the tank at the time was my hawk, which did not bother him at all. He had many caves of his own in the tank and rock work. I have a two inch gap in the back by the filter. That is where he must have gotten out of. RIP Mr. Goby

I dont think I have ever seen mine really swim an inch off the bottom of the sandbad. He has his little pistol fried. The little pistol like to move all my sand around its different each week. I bought this nice rock because it was a cool cave entrance rock. You can only see 1/4 of it now

Ok, just wanted to make sure it was as common as every single on jumping around, if its a rare thing I guess mine will be ok (my tank just has a small gap in the back) , but to those of you who have pistol shrimp too, were there any problems getting them to share a burrow together? Oh and Sepulatian, sorry to hear about that..

I feel your pain Sept. I don't know about watchman gobies, but I had a Diamond Goby until yesterday, a.k.a. Orange-Dashed Goby, who was a blast to watch. He would come out and zip around the tank, then dive into one of his many caves he dug under all my rock. At feeding time, he would go anywhere he could to snatch some food. When I got him, it took him about 4 1/2 days to show himself, I started to think he had died. He was doing great, just a bit shy. My kids even named him Coby the goby. Then he didn't come out to eat yesterday morning. Unfortunately, I had a gap in one corner of my tank where my filter is - only about an inch-and-a-half wide and as long as my filter. Wouldn't you know it, the goby found it. Then, unfortunately, I found him - behind the tank dried up.

Mine jumped this week. I never saw him high in the tank either. Just at the bottom doing his thing. My tank is mostly covered except around the filter and skimmer. One day my son found him dried up on the floor. We then noticed a spike in nitrates so I wonder if he was trying to get out. He seemed fine the night before. I also wonder if it isn't my filter. I have a fluval. It shuts off a pushes air out once in 24 hours for about a minute to release any air. I wondered if he someone was shot out of the tank. Just a thought. I never heard about the companion tiger pistol. Why is that important? Is he nervous? I plan on replacing my goby once my tank is more stable and will get on of those too.
