just a curriosity

I dont have any sea horses but I do like to read these threads to learn just incase I later decided to have them. I have been reading about people breeding their horses and being fairly successful at it. My curriosity peeked at hearing about the babies breeding with the parrents. Since inbreeding in just about any species is a concern, with it being a major cause in birth defects, lowered immune systems and such, wouldn't that be a concern with these sea horses too? for example: when 101 dalmations came out the breeders started inbreeding them to an extent that the dogs became dumb and now have a host of problems from anger issues to hearing, sight and a host of other issues related to their excessing inbreeding. So, my question again is: Is inbreeding an issue with seahorses?
thanks for answering my question. My goal is to learn all I can.

Is a good question.
I don't know.

hmm. well maybe we can both learn something about this. I'm sure out of all the people on here who seem to know much more than most, somebody might be able to give some insight into this question.

Wow, I was gonna do a thread on this very subject! My dwarfs are from a fellow hobbyist and are "siblings". I am wondering how common this is with any tank-bred fish. When you go to a breeder to get a pair or 4 or whatever, how many of these are siblings?? I also have clown babies, and am wondering if they need to be seperated?? When I see them tank-bred in the stores, they are all in the same tank. If I buy 2, are they related??

Hmmm.......hoping someone knows!

could be! Wasn't it Kat that has the clownfish that are each missing an eye? I would think that was because of inbreeding. I know that in most creatures, inbreeding causes all kinds of birthdefects including physical deformations and imune system problems. I got the idea for this thread when I learned that my cat was the product of inbreeding. I'm hoping that somebody smarter than me has more info or insight into this also.
