I recently converted my 55 fw to sw...no problem there I already have a 125g sw. I have 3 pieces of live rock from my lfs, so I'm assuming they are established...anyway. What exactly do bristle worms look like and are they bad for your tank? I have heard they are and they aren't. Another question...my lr is starting to form little white things with hairs on top...what are they? I also have a starfish with every leg missing:( how long is it gonna take for them to grow back with proper conditions...o yeah the worms are pinkish/brown/orange, I just started to see them all of a sudden today, they also have little hairs on them. I just ordered 45 lbs of lr off the internet and was wondering if I should take the old rock out? Any comments would be appreciated...

Bristle worms can look different but all the ones that I have found in my tank are a glossy white color with little white bristles running all the way down their bodies. I think they can be pink and orange too. They are good, an excellent member of the clean up crew. A lot of people say they eat other things in your tank like snails and stuff but usually they only eat them when they are dead. Just don't touch them, their bristles can really hurt. If your starfish is losing his legs it means that there is something in the water he doesn't like, what are your water parameters? If he has lost all his legs then there is little chance that he is going to live.

ActuallyI treated the tank for ick and it was supposed to be invert safe but I guess for him it wasn't:( I moved him to my other tank and he has been doing well....that was about a week or so ago. If, by chance, he did live, would his legs grow back:confused: I did find out that they are bristle worms, thanks. About the lr....should I take out the old and add the new or leave it...the new rock will be cured. The little white things on the lr are like little balls of something, oblong, with hairs on top...they are all over 2 of the rocks

The star could survive myabe if the water conditions are right but since he lost all his legs it will be hard for him to recooperate but it could live. I don't think taking out the rock is neccessary, you always get lots of different growths on the live rock and most of it is good. You should see the stuff that grows on mine. :)
