Ok, before I go and pay 1300 bux for a tank around xmas, I was wondering do sharks need anything special for them (like salinity, temp.,etc.)? If so what? Thanks!

depends on the shark...some sharks need cooler waters than others...all sharks need a fine grain sand (no crushed coral) or their belly will get cut...
what size tank are you getting???

Ya I know about the substate thing, I'm puttin in the tank 300lbs. of ls. The tank is going to be around 250 gallons to 300 gallons. I know about the temp.for certain sharks. But do you need special lighting, our a special amount of salinity?

Most sharks for home aquariums are nocturnal bottom dwellers. So to see your sharks more active during the day, you should have moderately subduded lighting, so I would say a 2 bulb NO flo fixeture with a blue acantic and a 50/50, that would give it a darker atmosphere for the sharks. Im not 100% sure if that's what you should do, but I would dont get anything above HO flo lights. But I'm not too sure if tricking the sharks to stay awake would be very good for their health. Salinity shouldn't be much of a factor just as long as your SG is around 1.021 and 1.025 or so.
Also, make sure that you have a strong filter system getting really good water circulation. You need to get a pretty big wet dry, a pretty strong UV, and a really effecient protien skimmer.
It also depends on what species of shark. A leopard shark and a coral cat shark have different needs. No triggers or filefish, and no copper meds.

definatly go fot the 300gal. as for the lights i second mark's advice for 2 NO lights, and normal salinaty levels of 1.021-1.025 still apply to sharks...
by the way have you decided which shark your gonna get??
