Over the past 3 years I spent well over $4000 on my lil 55 gal reef!
Plus I have a few major improvements in mind that will cost me a couple grand more!
But...in my opinion the expense is well worth it.

Same here, I coulda bought a better car with the cash I've put into the tank. When Isabel hit, I was without power for 2 days and it looked like I was going to lose my whole tank (thankfully I only lost a tuxedo urchin). And I was wishing that a tree would have fallen on my car instead of the tank being without power because my car is worth less than my tank. However, I'm still happy with the decision to get a reef tank, a new(er) car couldn't possibly have brought me as much satisfaction.
For $2,300? That's not too much to work with, but you could probably afford a sweet 55g reef for that price.

At least you would've had insurance on the car. Kinda makes me wonder...does anyone have their tank insured? With the recent power outage issues and the bad salt that wiped out Thomas712's tank, seems like a good idea for some of you with thousands invested.
