just bought a three gallon!

PICS!!!! We NEED pics!!!!!

I do NOT have anything live in my dwarf tank other than my plants
I would be too afraid they could hurt the ponies but that is just MO....Rykna would be the one to ask if u can find her, she hasnt been here much lately

I get my hatcheries from the grocery store. I do have to drink a few liters of cool, refreshing diet pepsi to get them, though! That is cool I hadn't erased this pic from my desktop yet!

That is a good start!!

Honestly I would let your tank run 4-6 weeks at least before attempting ANY horses or ponies but even then if it is a brand new tank u may want to wait longer
I jump started my pony tank with a cultured filter and water from my 75g and I still let my tank run another 6 weeks b4 I added ponies
BTW what type of hatchery did u get???
I cheat I have a 2g filled with SW & I just dump the eggs in then syphon the BBS out the next day. i dunno works for me

Nice Suzy!!!!! I might try that if I ever get this baby outa my arms! LOL

I heard that it was a good idea to invest in decapsulated eggs or do it yourself because there seems to be a connection between the cysts and getting hydroids in your tank UGH!
Suzy, I love your simple setup. Do you just net the newly hatched shrimp out with a brine shrimp net? Is it easy to get mostly bbs and not any cysts? Or do you decap first?
BTW, where IS Rykna? I miss her too. She always has informative and encouraging posts.

I have not had luck with commercialized decapsulated cysts. They just don't hatch, they are extremely pricey for a person that hatches a trillion a week. I used to decap but I don't anymore. My fry will not snick at anything they have not analyzed for a few seconds to make sure it is alive.
But, I am not afraid of no stinkin' hydroid. I am going to add that to the "Myths I don't baleave" thread!
Seriously, hydroids in the seahorse community are really over rated....
I use an acrylic piece of tubing hooked to a flexible piece of tubing to suck the hatched into another DP hatchery to start the enrichment step. Then, I have a culture of BBS that are pretty pure of cysts or shells that I can suck up with a turkey baster to feed.

I was chatting w/Rykna yesterday, she is REALLY missing her ponies/tanks and it has been hard for her to come here.

She also has been very busy as she is being a show off and has already started her Spring cleaning

Yeah, she had a total crash, from what I gather. She said 'no survivors'. it's awful.

I hope it won't be very long before she's back in the swing of things with another 'ranch'. I can understand it would be hard to come here right now tho.
BTW, Suzy, thankx again for the additional insights. Soooo, you've not had trouble with hydroids? I'm honestly a little worried. So many things can go wrong; or nothing apparent and yet, a crash. I know there will be errors etc on my part, yet I'd like to try to prevent as much as possible. So, meanwhile,
I'm stockpiling all these tidbits for my (hopefully not too far)future use.
TTYL!!

Hydroids can be a PIA. The ones I had thrived on BBS. But, a peppermint shrimp ate them.
I really do not think the sting of a nemocyst, inside the tentacles of a coral, can really sting a seahorses, IME. I get aiptasias, and I put rescue LPS with my seahorses. really, they have skin like an armadillo!

so you CAN put lps with them?

Do u hae corals with ur dwarves????
I have my larger SH's in my 75g but all I have in there are things I know wont hurt my horses
And I have I believe one of Titan's (one of Rykna's ponies) offspring so I hope she breeds with one of my new males and that I can someday send her some of these beauties. She was kind enuf to send me ponies as my xmas gift b4 her tank crashed. I lost all of the others but she is a surviver!!!! She is a beautiful yellow like Titan and I fully believe she is his daughter

EEK! I am so sorry, I totally spaced the 3 nano tank w dwarves part of this! No, LPS are probably not good, seeings how most could grab a tiny seahorse, esp a fry baby and I am not sure it could get away.
Sorry?
Zoanthids, mushrooms (not the kind that eat), even SPS if your light is right, but I would most LPS are out.
