just curious ...

how can you tell if a tree sponge is dead or alive ... i have one in my tank .. but i really dont know that much about them .. it was sent to me by mistake from the company i orderd from and i didnt want to risk it dying by sendin it back ... any info would be great ... i just need to know what to look for if in case things go bad ...
 
any help would be greatly appreciated .. im not going to be online for a few days to check so please as soon as anyone knows let me know

what kind is it? Look for black spots or deterioration on it. Don't take it out of the water, the air gets trapped in it and it will surely die.
You can cut off the bad spots if you see any with a sharp razor. Only a few cuts per razor because it will dullen the blade and you may damage the rest of it.
Also they like low light and are filter feeders. Pytoplankton works well.
