Just found this, ID please?

I was just gazing into my tank (go figure), and found this new addition on my live rock. Does anyone know what it is? It looks to me like some kind of mushroom, but I'm not sure. I want to make sure it's okay to keep it there. These pictures are not the best, but they're the best I could do right before lights out. What I'm seeing is pretty much centered in the pics, and actually have a mouth, like a 'shroom. But deep, deep maroon color.

Any idea how it would have just suddenly popped out like that? What kind of mushroom, not that it reallly matters as long as it's safe for my critters to pester. Really weird, that rock has been in my tank since day one, and this is the first that I see anything like that...I'm psyched!!

Yep. it is a mushroom and a cute one to. I've had mine for about 7 months it came on some live rock . All I can add about them is it does get really tiny by morning but after you turn on the lights for about an hour .. it grows. :cheer: . good luck

Thanks alot!! I can't believe that I actually got a mushroom hitch hiker!! And a really cool looking one at that!! Does anyone know if one mushroom will multiply? I love the color of this one, and I would really like to see a little more of it in there especially being near my pink zoos...??

It doesn't look like a mushroom to me, in fact I believe its a sponge. Got some just like it, here is one growing on my heater cover.

Yup, that's pretty much what mine looks like. So, what do sponges do? Will it multiply?

Sponges really don't do much of anything, they just sit there. I've had a few yellow ones grow to about 2.5 inches. They just filter the water and are pretty harmless.

i have the exact same thing in a few places on a rock. plus some green stuff here's some pics:

I have the same dark green stuff, sorta velvety looking, anyone know what it is?

colors may look balck, but its really dark maroon.
