I posted this on the reef board as well, but thought this board might be a bit more appropriate...
I was just given lots of gear from a guy I used to work with (he is moving, and he didn't want to take it with him). Most of it has been in his garage/basement for about 6 months. Highlights include: 3 tanks (30h, 20h, 10), lights, numerous heaters, filters (hanging type), protein skimmer, chemicals, salt, and base rock. What do I need to do before I use this stuff... what is the proper method of cleaning all the gung off it (old, dead algae, spider webs, dust, etc.)? Should I boil the rock? What about the tanks/filters? Just a good scrub brush and lots of water?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

well to clean everything DONT use any chemicals, water will be your friend in this case, try getting sponges(that dont come with soaps or dergertents) in it and scrub a dub dub

way to go! I agree with the "no chemical" route. Also, you may wish to boil the rock to clean it and let it dry out in the sun. Have fun!!
