just got a turboflotor have a question

i came with a small black box with bio balls in it. It attaches to the outflow is there any reason I need to hook it up. does any one have any pics with theirs hooked up and running.

I haven't had one, but I know that the CPR's come with them as Bubble-Traps and to quiet the return down.
