I've had my eye on a fairly small Sailfin Tang. It's been there since 1/23. I was thinking of putting it on hold (water change coming up) so I asked the owner (small shop) if he "holds" fish. He told me not really, maybe a day or so. Then he says he'll hold fish for "regulars" but not very often. He says his tanks aren't big enough. Well anyway, I got to thinking... "It's been here since january 23rd" I started looking real close only to find a small white spot on it's fin. Needless to say, I passed. Did I make the right choice? Any input on how your lfs does buisness would be great. Is this normal buisness?

i wouldnt even think about buying a tang that has anything that resembles what a white spot might be. i think you made a good choice. you can always order another one of you want one.

tacks; Everytime I see a fish that I want and con myself when I have that bad in the gut feeling usually goes sour on me and takes other good fish down with it. I sense you want it but don't feel right about it, so from someone who has been there too often pass on it. A good store would offer to hold it till it passes muster or if the store has a hospital set up as mine does they would treat it for you till it passed muster. It is just many of these stores know someone will buy that fish and they just want money now better it not be yours. Hope this helps you decide wisely.

Well said Pufferlover. Tacks you did the right thing. Half of the disease board is from new introductions that should not have been bought or were bought on impulse. If your tank is doing well dont take chances.

Just wanted to comment. I think you made the right choice. But also, that white spot on his fin, if it was on the back fin, that is his barb(defense mechanism). All tangs have them, some white, some the same color as the rest of the tang, some more noticable than others. Agreed, well said pufferlover! HTH--Bob

Good point Bobber but it was on his left pectoral fin. I should have mentioned that. Thanks Everyone
