yesterday i plumbed together my 2x 75g tanks. today i checked my water, everything was stable, both tanks had the same readings..my nitrates went down big time. So i fed my spotted moray to get him out of the rocks. netted him, and put him in the new tank. he spazzed out, threw up the food i fed him, and is acting wierd. is this just stress? no worries or do i need to worry? thanks.

I just "threw" him in.. Both display tanks are connected to one tank so it is the same water, I tested both to make sure and everything was the same, the tank is BB with a couple pieces of base rock so I'm not going to have a cycle, then im adding some cured rock from my other tank once he gets comfortable.

he would probably really like some sand and rocks to be able to hide in. probably stressed out with no where to hide.

he has 2 base rock caves, and a pvc tunnel that goes the whole length of the tank so he has plenty of places to hide, he is acting better now, im guessing it was just stress. why would he like some sand? i know many people who have eels with BB.

the water isnt my concern. The sand and rock. How long has that tank been ste up with the same water? How long has the equipment been on that set up?

the skimmer and stuff and bioballs have been on the other tank for 2 years, i switched it over to my new sump yesterday and filled up the tank, the water mixed for about a day and then i put the eel in.

Saltlife set up a 75g tank right beside a 75g that he already had. Everything is plumbed in on the same system, and has shared the water for at least two days. All his water parameters are fine. Essentially he just did a 50% water change on his system.
IMO what has happened is that his eel is just stressed out because of the move and hasn't found anywhere to hide yet. Eels naturally throw up when stressed out, humans do too! lol.

ahh okay. well then yeah you just pissed him off.
lol yeah, thank you CK for responding to the thread though, I apreciate it. He seems to be doing better and starting to explore the new tank so I'll let him be.

The new tank will still have to cycle no denitrifaction bacteria is contained in the water column. The hope is there is enough in the already established system to handle the added load from the new tank

all that is in the tank is an eel which was in the other 75g with 2 others. so it should help it to say the least right? I added 100 gallons to the system and moved a fish into the new tank

quick question, I tried feeding the Spotted Moray today and he refuses to eat and looks really pissed off still, and everytime he swims around he kinda spazzes, is it because he sees his reflection and isn't used to the BB? When I get some extra cash im gonna get some sand and add it in slowly. But do I need to worry that he isn't eating or he is still getting used to being in the new tank? I know they go on food strikes but none of my eels have done it before so I just wanna make sure he is gonna make chill out

I wouldn't worry about the eel he could not eat for a month and be fine. As far as the bare bottom goes I am not a fan just for that reason I think it does cause stress and disorients the fish(I also think it looks bad).
I am assuming you've checked you water again to make sure it is still alright

haven't checked the water yet, I am going to though today, I put cardboard underneath the tank and he started swimming around normally and he ate. so I guess that was the problem.. all seems well though now so I hope it stays that way lol
