Just Ordered a 180G Tank

Can't wait to receive it, 3 weeks.
It cost $1480 total (tax included). It's a 6x2x2 acrylic w/ those smooth corners (one piece of acrylic) w/ black background and all the necessary holes drilled for a closed loop system.
It has dual corner overflows (6"x6" box).
I think I paid a bit high, but I trust this LFS and they help me out a lot when I have questions.
I guess next purchase is the stand

did you just want acrylic over glass? I'm getting a 180 glass that's pretty much the same size with 2 overflows and my lfs quoted me $750.

well, there are pros and cons to both. glass will shatter easier and perhaps leak easier. but acrylic with scratch much easier and is more likely to bow.

It does scratch VERY easily....if you look at it funny it scratches...
NO Mag floats....there was some abrasive dust on the front...someone decided to play with my mag float and well lets say it turned into a etch-a-sketch that doesn't erase...

I would suggest cancelling the order if you can. You can purchase a brand new 180 on the big auction site for 700 bucks plus shipping of 199 anywhere in the US. They list them all the time with a 699.99 reserve. They usually sell for slightly over the reserve. Personally, your lfs is quite high on that price.

I've always had glass tanks and have only had 1 bad tank which was an Oceanic, and it wasn't the glass that gave out......I think alot of people don't tell the whole truth as to why or what actually caused the leaks in the glass tanks at times...
With acrylic tanks you don't want deflection in the material....If you notice deflection is has to do with how the tank is built....I would recommend you go to the other forum site and check out the thread that the guy who answers is a quality acrylic tank builder and has a very good reputation for his work......

Too bad you don't live closer. A LFS is having a "sidewalk sale" and has 2 180 gallon stands for $50 each (wood with 3 opening doors). I almost bought one myself for down the road but I don't have anywhere to keep it.

The $1480 includes all the drillings I asked for, so I don't know if that raises the price. The ones online are not drilled, and also the ones I saw on ---- all have single overflow in the middle. I wanted dual overflows.
I am looking for a cheap stand, and $50 sounds so good for one. What city/state is this in. I'm willing to pay for shipping charges if the seller wil ship.

I actuallly just recieved a price quote from glasscages.com for a 180g glass with 2 overflows & 4 returns for a closed loop for $1045 for the tank with oak stand & canopy plus $445 shipped to me or $100 pick up fee for local pick up at a nearby show. Not bad IMO, I just might order one through them soon . They sell both acryliic & glass but recommended glass to me due to how easy acryllic scratches. Has anybody ordered a tank through them? Heard anything about quality, etc.?

My 240 tank from GlassCages cost less than that and that was with a huge center overflow with 3 1 1/2" bulkheads in overflow, CL 2" holes drilled and with tank eurobraced and eurobracing drilled to allow easy plumbing of the OceanMotions so nothing has to be draped over the top of the tank.......I even used Low E glass on front and both sides....Seems alittle steep to me

It's the damn shipping charges that are killer, or else I"d order it online. All those cool stores are on east coast and shipping to Cali is at least $300.
Plus the guy at the LFS told me he'll help me w/ all plumbing and setup, so I figured I should give him some business.

Shipping is a killer!!!!! I wanted to order from the West Coast and even getting employee discount with a major shipper wouldn't have been cheap
