just sharing hitchiker experience

We had two small crabs as hitchikers on an order of LR. The first one I removed as soon as I found him and took him to the LFS for ID. They described it as a common rock crab and not a big deal to have in the tank. So when the second one was seen we let it stay.
He grew and became more bold, more visible. Yesterday I found him quite out in the open, picking away at some coralline algae (grrr) So I watched. and watched. When I saw him lunge at our fish (twice!) that was it. He's outta there. So a word to the wise, keep an eye on your hitchikers! <img src="graemlins//uhuh.gif" border="0" alt="[U-Huh]" />

I've had a lot of hitchikers; snails, bristle worms crabs and worst of all, mantis shrimp. Thats one thing you don't want hitchiking on your rock.

Lexatomic, Yes, a Mantis Shrimp can open your finger up as if cut by a razor. And it will be a deep puncher, instead if a surface slice. So don't pet the animals kids. :D

Yes. Unfortunately the little suckers can crack glass. Keep away from those pinchers! Yikes!
You can tell if you have one because they make this clicking sound. You will hear it. Those guys are tough to catch. They find a hole in a piece of LR and hide out. Then, when a fish comes too close, snap! The best way to get rid of them is take the piece of LR out of the tank and put it in a bucket of hypo-salinity water. (A heck of a lot of salt content). They will come out very quickly. This way you save the rock.
