Has anyone ever purchased one and not only had luck with them, but also witnessed them change? How long did they take to change? Anything info would help. Thanks.

I have seen and also read articles regarding Emporor angels in captivity never fully attaining their adult coloration and hanging in that drab sub-adult pattern. Apparently no one is sure why, but they believe it has to due with the captive diet. My advice if you don't want to deal with this is to get a small adult specimen of around 4 inches. The larger they are the more problems they run into in general. Look for a healthy eating specimen that has no erosion of the lateral line, as this is VERY common with this species. No doubt this fish kicks *** though.

If you want them to really thrive you need about a 200 gal tank. you will also need to feed sponge. that is why i dont like large angels.
