I have a 10 gallon setup as a pod tank.. right now I have about 3" of sand and gonna get about 10lbs of rocks tommorow..
I also have an airstone and a small powerhead for circulation..
the item in question is a emperor 400 that I had laying around.. I put it on the tank to clear out all of the water from the sand since I just set it up today.. I really dont like the extra room it takes up.. but I wonder if the powerhead with sponge and DSB will keep the tank clean enough.. I wont be adding much food.. or anyfish.. but Im just wondering if I should keep it or not.. I can leave the biowheels in the tank.. so thats not a problem.. but whats your opinion.. ?? remember my only goal is to grow pods, maybe macro algae and have a few snails.. but water clarity is important.. I hate an ugly tank.. THX ~DANiel

Or right when you do throw it out you'll find a use for it. I know I have all kinds of stuff put up. Skimmers, pumps powerheads, pvc pipe and angles.

haha.. no not dump it in the trash.. man I still keep all my old used filters.. haha.. The boxes start stacking higher and higher.. Im just wondering if I should keep it on the tank or not.. but Im gonna the one phead was not enough to clear the water.. so Im actually gonna go buy a 20 gallon.. take back everything I bought for the tank and start over.. I did some better shopping and got better stuff for the same price. so Ill keep it.. hahah.. THX for telling me not o throw something away.. *LOL. .not that I would have.. but thx ~DAniel

How do you fit a 400 on a 10 gallon tank? I suprised you didn't suck all the sand into the filter.

*LOL it did suck the sand into the filter.. thats why I want to keep it.. I used some cheap play sand and it had to many fine particles.. so the emperor had to clean it out.. and it did.. but It wont fit with the hood that I bought.. so Im gonna take it all back and get a 20 gallon this way I can keep at least a damsel or something small in the tank.. but it fit right on.. had about 3" on either side.. and the intake was about 2" from the bottom.. I did support the weight with wood blocks since a 10gal's glass is so thin.. but other than that it worked fine.. now I just hope I can get a concentration of pods in a bigger tank.. :D
