I been doing saltwater for about 4 years now. For new people to this hobby I believe a smart thing to do is keep a notebook on your tanks. This method has helped me threw the years!! its a great way to look back and see your progress. you can record your #'s track your water parameters over time so if you have a problem you can give us the best info to slove your problem.
The cool thing about this is over time you can see your progress and say I came a long way. Record the organisms you have in your notebook and write down things about them so you get a better understanding of them and keep them not just alive but thriving.
I often write down some of the info I get from other members in SWF for mine own good like on things I would like to try write down were they went wrong so I do not make the same misteak or had progress. Just a thought guys !!!!!!! BioReefer:rolleyes: sorry about (SP)

I second that. The day I set up my tank, I started a note book of my progress. Keeping track of my numbers, when I added stuff, what lived and what died. It is an invaluable resource. Just keep it a good distance from your tank though. Just about a years worth of info got soaked when a line in my filter broke and flooded my stand. =).

I set up a word file that is a daily diary. I've got 3 tanks I'm keeping track of and it lets me know where I stand on each tank and what's in there. and how long it's been in there. I keep track of water changes, lighting changes and tank readings. All I have to do is call it up off my desk top. I also back it up on a floppy evey 2-3 weeks in case I crash the computer.

I used to keep one when I first started, but I got lazy somewhere along the way. I just looked at it and my last entry was a water change and testing in October of 2001.
