Keeping a QT cycled?

Hi Beth and selected others!
For future reference (hypothetically now whilst i decide on the fate of my QT), once the QT has cycled with the help of my shrimpy friend, how do you keep it cycled? Just leave it and everything will remain zero with monthly water changes?
Thanks for all the help guys,
Timbo

I was wondering the same thing . I was going to try and keep a little substrate or filter media in - between adding a fish to QT . I thought maybe lr and take it out before adding a fish , but i guess if you medicate the tank the lr will hold the medication .. hope beth or terryb can help

IMO it should stay cycled if you had a good cycle to start with. There should be enough bacteria and bio in it. I also have a 1/4 substrate. Also you can get a little bit of LR and put in there.

I put a tablespoon of live sand from my main tank in there. just a bit so after use I can take it out and throw it away, and replace it.

maybe put a little LS or live CC in a stocking and set it in the tank until you need it and take it out when ever you want.
maybe?:)
