How do you do it? What animal are everyone using to keep the surface of their dsb clean? I have some turbo snail poop that nobody seems to want to eat?

Bristle worms would probably be your best bet for a 29 gal tank. If you have enough room a conch works quite well.
No to the sand sifting star if you have a DBS, they will eat your critters.

Siftings stars defeat the purpose of a DSB. If am wrong please let me know but that is what i understand.

It's a big negatory on the sand sifting stars....most of the good life lives at the surface.

I have two sand shifters and the sandbed seems fine to me. They actually do a good job at keep the surface of the sand clean.
Also you correct about the staying at the surface mlm... They don't dig throw the entire sand bed they only bury themselves below the surface of the sand. If your lucky they even reporduce in your tank... I have a few baby sandshifter that are getting alittle bigger every day.

How did the conversion from CC to DSB go? how did you end up doing it? I would recomend things like bristle worms, mini brittle stars, maybe some sand sifting snails (I forget which ones they are), and also some left hand hermits as all my other hermnits stick to cleaning the rocks but these seem to like the sand.

I'd recommend a good detrivore kit and maybe a small conch or cuke.
and from the guy who literally wrote the book on dsb (well ok a book) Dr. Ron,
"UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ADD 'SAND-SIFTING' ANIMALS SUCH AS BURROWING SEA STARS OR SOME GOBIES. These animals are "sifting" the sediment to eat the sand critters that you need to have thrive."

Hondo-
The conversion went great, i decided to do it all at once and then leave about ten pounds of the cc in a nylon bag in the sump so that the tank wouldn't cycle again. I also built a hang on refuguim like you have and that was a fun project as well. I went to deep sea gallery in vancouver to buy the sand and rubble rock for the fuge. That is a great store with incredible customer service. Hey buy the way i posted a question for you on the fish board but nevermind it. It was about caulerpa and i just bought some at waves.
See ya around.

get a couple engineer gobies and one sand sifting one - cand will be cleaned in no time :D :D :D
One very little drawback - they will ruin your DSB.

Narcisus (spelling) snails. I believe they actually live under the sand and then come up when they smell food.

Option 720,
I just discovered Depp sea gallery myself and really like the store. They keep talking about a frag trade coming up so hopefully I can pick up some coral reasonably cheap. Would have been happy to give you some calurpa as even though my fuge is small I have to trim it about every two weeks. Next time try my email:
