KELP...ok or stay?

I was thinking that I could take a small bit of kelp from Catalina when I go next time and add it in my tank. I know that I would rinse it thoroughly in freshwater and kill of any parasites there may be. Is it ok or should it stay in the ocean?

there were 2 beautiful tanks i saw with kelp in them at Catalina also, but i dunno if it's safe! Please, I need any opinions!!! <img src="graemlins//bah.gif" border="0" alt="[bah]" />

Not much in the way of help....but I've never heard of anyone keeping kelp in a system......and personally I'm not sure I'd try it.........maybe somebody has some info on keeping kelp but its a new idea to me......*_^
