Key West Got Flooded Too

2005 is the Year of the Flood
I've lived in the Keys all my life and this is the first year that the home town actually got flooded.
Monday nite was quit horrendous. I live in N. Fla now but my family remains in Key West. During Wilma, I remained on the phone through the night with my family to let them know what was going on via the Weather Channel. In the morning, just when we thought the worst would soon end, the storm serge hit and covered the lower keys islands. Many people lost homes, and cars. Most people no longer have cars due to the water that swept over the island twice.
I thought I'd share this bizarre picture with you. An eel that was caught in the surge, and met his death as the water receded, leaving him hanging in a tree. Many marine animals ended up dead. There were several jellyfish and sea stars in my own property. Many people say that dying fish were left in their yards as the water returned to the ocean.
The bottom picture is what is supposed to be US Highway 1.

Beth, Good job keeping your family informed on the phone. We lost power here due to an earthquake and were not sure what was going on. My wife called someone in San Jose and she said she was watching what was going on down here on the news. I hope all is well with your property.

That was the weird part. I'm used to being on the "receiving end" of storm, weathering the storm in the dark and little communication with the outside world due to power outage.
In this case, I was on the phone thru the nite letting them know where the storm was, whether it was actually going to hit or not. Thank goodness in went just barely west then north of the island, otherwise, I'm sure surge would have completed wiped out everyone. It was a surreal experience.
