I have a 20 gallon reef tank. I have a aquaclear 200 and a couple of powerheads. I would like to kill the aquaclear and hook up a protein skimmer. Is this a good idea? and also if it is a yes vote on a skimmer what kind shouold i get?

How much live rock do you have and how long have you had it in the tank ?
Substrate as well.
Adding a skimmer may be a good idea, but don't ever remove an existing installed power filter and replace it with anything, in this case a skimmer.
Keep running the filter AND add the skimmer. Run them both at the same time for a period of time. See if the skimmer is doing anything, and if your water quality improves.
Then ...
Depending on the quality/quantity of rock and sand, and maturity of your tank, number of fish/inverts you have ... and your water test results ... you may be able to eventually remove the Aquaclear.
Prizm or BakPak2 would be fine for hang on skimmers, unless you have a sump or want to hard pipe an external skimmer. Your choice ;)

If you plan on keeping a 20gl reef . A Skilter would be good to used it,s a Skimmer and Filter and it works great and makes a little noise. Happy Slimming. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

If it was my tank - I say yes add a skimmer.
A lot of folks here use the Prizm - decent price and they say they work well.
I've used the BakPakII - work great, but have to look into both dimensions, price and decide for yourself which one is best for you ( if either ) ;)

What kind of lighting do you have on your 30 gallon.
That is one of the most beautiful tanks I have ever seen.
